I’m a big fan of the multitude of 100-calorie snack packages on the market today – simply for the convenience. Sure, I could take the time to portion out an appropriate serving for myself every morning, but frankly I barely get to work on time as it is. Every second I can spare helps. Also, I try to not to work out any math problems before 10 a.m. and at least one cup of coffee.
That’s why I was especially excited when the candy industry starting portioning out snacks in pre-measured packages of 100 calories or less. Like eating organic or local, it might cost a little more, but if it improves any portion of your life, it’s worth a try.
Here are some new products with pre-measured calorie counts that you might think of stocking up on for Halloween get togethers or your Trick or Treaters.
- Cadbury Adams – Sour Patch Kids® 100-calorie Pack and Swedish Fish® 100-calorie Pack bring you the same big flavors you know and love, now in smaller pieces and perfectly portioned packages. Treat yourself anytime, anywhere! (Cadbury Adams USA LLC)
- Hershey’s® 100-calorie S’mores Snacksters® – Bring back memories of the campfire and melt into classic s’mores flavors with only 100 calories in S’mores Snacksters®, a playful mix of graham cracker cereal squares, mini marshmallows and milk chocolate chips. (The Hershey Company
- Skinny Hunk® – A full size bar of terrifically chewy nougat at only 100-calories, the Skinny Hunk® is sweet treat that’s guilt free. (Annabelle Candy Co., Inc.)
I know that 100 calorie packs aren’t for everyone, but they make sense for me and I can see how they make sense for packing kids’ lunches or passing out afternoon snacks. I especially like when candy companies develop portion-controlled products that differ a little bit from the traditional brand offerings (like the Hershey’s Snacksters® for example).
There are lots of other pre-portioned candy products out there on the market – some of which actually have fewer than 100 calories. What are your favorites?

Well, you have to do a little portion control, but you can have 1/2 a pack of Cocoa Cats (like Peeps, but chocolate cats!) for 130 calories. That’s 4 cats! YUM!!!

I’ve been living in France too long to remember what a calorie is – I just eat when I’m hungry and stop when I’m not. Simple system and works great here where we don’t mind a bit of cream and butter in our recipes! I just wrote a page on French candy I thought you might like.
