Stephanie, back when I was a kid (I remember what penny candy was, if that is any reference), candy corn was only available for Halloween and then the government prohibited its trade the rest of the year, like eggnog around the winter holidays. Well, I am not sure it was the government but I don't know what other force could have such an impact.

The good news is that nowadays candy corn has seasonal equivalents for Easter and other holidays so you can probably find it all year long. It's like a miracle right there in the candy aisle!

Regarding Candy Corn. Can I just say that I am on bag number three in about two weeks (Brach's Autumn Mix -- it's what my lunch-break CVS carries)? I think I'm going to avoid CVS until Halloween is over.

...then it'll be on clearance! :-)

Yeah - for real! Leave my candy corn alone unless you're looking to scrap about it. I used to be the same way about pork rinds before I turned vegetarian, but nobody ever really wanted those other than me.

Rob - I wasn't thinking of health reasons, more because people would not trust the loose-floating candy corn and throw it out. That's candy abuse if I have ever heard of it.

Thanks for the mention. But I admit, it's hard to give it out if the bag is open. Not for health reasons, but because I tend to eat it all before giving it out!

Yeah. I try to be open-minded about candy corn flavors but the original is the classic and I don't care for others I have tasted either.

http://www.typetive.com/candyblog/category/brachs/

This post (above) expresses similar feelings about the chocolate flavor. I haven't tried them because of the gelatin, since I am a vegetarian. Alas, so many thing I miss out on...

Thanks for commenting. It's always nice to have another Raleigh person here - it feels like home!

Carl, Have you seen all the crazy flavors of candy corn avaialable this year? My local Target store must have six or seven different varieties in all different colors. I tried Brach's Chocolate Caramel Candy Corn, but as a die hard chocolate lover, I was unimpressed. But Halloween is the candy lovers dream holiday! Thanks for the great blog!
