Ruth, I did the same, searching the net for the Smothers Brothers song in question. Not only couldn’t I track it down, it was hopeless even finding the lyrics of that very funny piece. What I did find out was that Tom or Dickie didn’t write it, it was authored by their sidekick and fellow comedian Pat Paulsen. I do believe I have the old vinyl it appeared on in the closet somewhere (“Two Sides of the Smothers Brothers” and “The Best of the Smothers Brothers” contain the song). Maybe I’ll search for and play it tonight on my ricketty-old turntable.

In USA Today 7/9/09 there was a front-page item about a man falling into a vat of chocolate and being killed by the giant mixing blades. It immediately brought to mind that funny song from the ?1970s? I’m so disappointed the music isn’t available at this site — I’d love to hear it again. I think anyone uder the age of 45 probably has never heard of it. Too bad. I wonder how many people who read that news story today will check in here hoping to hear the song and will be disappointed, too.

Could not get the music to play but know the song by heart and can sit here enjoying a smooth chunk of Dark Chocalate and hear this song in my mind. To say the least the Smothers Brothers are all time favorites of mine.

Because I have difficulty keeping my head above water whenever I try to swim, what should I yell if i fell into a vat of water…..[H2O]ellpppp!!!!????? I’d much prefer falling into a vat of chocolate, yelling nothing and asking for a spoon…..ed
