Candy Dish Blog

The Official Candy Blog of the National Confectioners Association

Since I’ve recently adopted a sweet little dog named Bella (pictured right), all I can think about is all of the fun we’re going to have together as new buddies.  Taking her on walks, playing in the backyard, giving her chocolate treats, wait- WHAT!?  It is a well-known fact that dogs love chocolate and an even more well-known fact that chocolate is like poison for them. Lucky for Bella, I found quite a few companies who specialize in candy and chocolate inspired dog treats!

I found these chocolate covered dog bones from Brookside Chocolate Company who use gourmet white chocolate (safe for man, or woman’s best friend) and these organic Sweet Sensations Dog Candy from Paw Palace Online which look like tasty truffles but are totally safe for pets.   These Candy Cane Rawhide Dog Treats would make a great stocking stuffer too!

Another standout is The Chocolate Dog, who exhibits at The Holiday Shops at Bryant Park in Manhattan, NY, just in time for the holidays.  Their “barkery” makes gourmet, organic dog treats for your pooch.  You can order a hand-crafted dog outfit and treats online that are advertised to stay fresh for 2-3 months.  I think this would make an excellent holiday gift for your pet-a-holic friends – just make sure you’re not sharing chocolate made for humans with your four-legged friends!

  1. Candy for dogs must be made out of healthy ingredients, because chocolate is toxic for dogs. Use carob instead, yoghurt, honey instead of sugar, whole wheat flour or whole grain flour, milk or butter, organic eggs, and fruit jams.
