Candy Dish Blog

The Official Candy Blog of the National Confectioners Association

organic-candy-canesThis Valentine’s Day, use up those leftover Christmas candy canes by hosting a peppermint and chocolate martini party using this recipe from the Candy Dish blog. Did you eat or distribute all your candy canes? Don’t worry – you can win some more. Candy Dish Blog and CandyBlog have teamed up to create the Candy Cane Contest. Sure it’s January, but we told you how you can use them up.

Here’s how you win: Tell us which four people you’d invite to your peppermint and chocolate martini party. Your guests could be present day friends, historic figures, celebrities – basically anyone you want. Just tell us who you’d pick and why and you might get your hands on some very tasty candy canes.

To enter: Leave your answers in the comments section of this entry. We will have four winners, who will be chosen shortly before Valentine’s Day and will receive a whole bunch of Pure Fun Organic Candy Canes. Update: Deadline to enter is 9 a.m. on Feb. 6th.

I’d invite physicist Gerard O’Neill (b.1927-d.1992), whom my husband idolized, Albert Einstein (b.1879-d.1955), so he could match wits with my daughter, Donny Osmond, because I love him so, and Hans Asperger (b.1906-d.1980), so I could thank him for giving my daughter’s quirky personality a name.

  4. I’d invite my friend Gurleen, my sister, J.D. Salinger, and Yundi Li because it’d be an awesome mix of conversation, music, and delicious-ness. :)

I’m not eligible to win (THIS is the downside to being a Candy Dish blogger) but I figured it would be OK to share my list. I’d invite Michelle and Barack Obama and my grandmother and grandfather who, though no longer with us, were crazy lifelong Democrats and who would be so so happy.

I’d invite my Grandpa Wennlund, who died when I was 5. But I have heard quite a few stories and I’d like to share some cocktails with him. I would also invite my Aunt Cathy and my cousin Kristina so she could see her mom again. And my neighbor Marko who just past away last Wed. and his wife, my friend, Zorica. I know it sounds depressing, but these people were GREAT FUN and it would be a good mix of people and lots of laughs and the best gift in the world for me and my friends….and if the word got out that I invited those 3 people and they would be here…well, then pretty much my whole world would want to come…

After I read the recipe, I’m thinking the party guest list may only be my husband! Let the party begin!

  11. I would invite Mother Teresa (I’ve always wanted to meet her and she probably wouldn’t drink any of the martinis), my mom who would love the chance to meet Mother Teresa and likes a good cocktail, my husband and my sister. Cheers!

I’d invite Kurt Vonnegut, Josef Pilates, my dad, and my grandpa.

  13. Just four? I’d invite Michelle Obama, Rachel Maddow, Malcolm Gladwell and George Michael.

  14. Wait. Tracy, do you mean George Michael, who never wants to dance again on account guilty feet have got no rhythm and should have known better than to cheat a friend? That’s gutsy. That’s awesome! Great lineup!

Carrie, you have tapped into my soft spot with Kurt Vonnegut. He is probably my biggest literary and humanistic hero. It was like losing a grandparent or close friend when he passed. Of course, I am not sure he ever really existed. Vonnegut is like that – fleeting, yet permanent.

My guest list? Kenny Chesney, Kenny Chesney, Kenny Chesney, and Kenny Chesney. I hope my husband doesn’t mind :)

  16. Susan – that’s not fair. I bet you aren’t even going to invite your husband! On the other hand, if that is okay with the rules, I might only invite Marisa Tomei. My lovely wife is likely to get jealous about that though. Maybe I better not…

  17. I would invite my three favorite girlfriends and my daughter. The little one loves mint.

  18. [...] guest list to my party? I have been asked who I would invite to my party if I were eligible to win the candy cane giveaway we are sponsoring. Well, my wife would be a hostess, so she does not count as a guest, but I think I would invite [...]

    I would invite:
    1. Andrew Zimmern. Then I would put extra delicious chocolate grubs in his chocotini.
    2. Anthony Bourdain, because he is grumpy, and for the sheer joy of watching him interact with guest #3.
    3. Gordon Ramsay, because having him and Mr. Bourdain in the same room would surely cause one of them to spontaneously combust.
    4. Alton Brown. I figure me, him, and Andrew could enjoy the drinks and chocolate while Mr. Ramsay and Mr. Bourdain duke it out.

Then we could all bake a chocolate cake or something.

I would invite Al Swearengen, Seth Bullock, Doc Cochran, and Mr. Wu from the HBO series Deadwood because I LOVED that show and miss it dearly.

  29. So many choices! My first thought is political: I’d have to invite Barack Obama, Tim Russert, Abraham Lincoln, and Doris Kearns Goodwin so she could write a book about the experience. Oh, and with all these invitees, I’d *hope* that my hubby and extended family just so happened to “drop in” on the party to share cocktails with the lot of ‘em!
