Candy Dish Blog

The Official Candy Blog of the National Confectioners Association

Evidence eatenI laid a trap for my coworkers yesterday. I bought a small bag of circus peanuts, opened it and laid it on the table in our lunch room. Slowly, the circus peanuts started disappearing. Apparently, I am not the only one who likes them. Most shocking was that Susan, who has been ridiculing me for months about loving these delicious nuggets of goodness, admitted to eating two of them, which means that she enjoys them as well. Why would she have a second one if she despised the first, the way she lets on?

Perhaps circus peanuts are not abhorred by people but simply are not their first choice when buying candy. So let’s be honest, folks. You do enjoy circus peanuts, don’t you? Susan was brave enough to be the first to come out of the closet on the issue and I embrace her for her courage. Who’s next? It’s okay – we are all family here, in this supportive, candy-loving group.

  1. Ugh. Not me.

  2. Please, do not implicate all the Susan’s in the office. If Circus Peanuts actually contained peanuts I might eat them.

  6. Matty, I bought them at a local drug store. You should be able to find them almost anywhere you buy candy, often unbranded. They are delicious, like Heaven that’s chewy and tastes like bananas.

  7. litlol.
Chewy banana heaven. Hm. That does sound fascinating.

I’ve been looking here in SF and dammit if I can’t find them anywhere these days.
I’m gonna have to buy in bulk online I know it.

    Stay tuned…

  8. I think that’s because circus peanuts are not on the cutting edge anymore. It’s not a Mac add-on and doesn’t wear funny-looking new-style glasses or fashionable scarves. The circus peanut wears no tight pants and doesn’t own an iPhone and doesn’t have a tattoo. It’s not hip. It’s not cool. It’s not defined by what it is or is not. It has transcended its own identity and simply become manna rained on us from Heaven. Yes, they are that good. But SF is way too cool for the humble circus peanut, or so it thinks. If Bodhidharma ate a circus peanut, he would ask you how it tasted and then smack you for not knowing. That’s just how good these candies are.

Matt, go into a CVS formerly Longs in SF. The picture shown of Circus Peanuts is CVS brand.

  10. It’s possible that circus peanuts are only available in drugstores and 7-11. I am not sure about that though.

I actually have cravings for these that will last 1 or 2 months, I break down.. buy a bag… enjoy it, get the “treatment” by whoever is around me at the time, buy another bag… repeat 3 or 4 times over the course of a few weeks and then I’m good for a while.
