Flag CakeSo, tomorrow is the Fourth of July and I figure half the homes in America will be making the classic flag cake with blueberries and strawberries.

Not me.  Oh sure, I pulled up the Betty Crocker Web site and looked at the Stars and Stripes Cake, trying to decide if my farm share this week included enough blueberries to make 50 or so stars (because really, if I only had 45 would anyone really notice?).  But then, I noticed this suggestion below the recipe:

Fresh fruit not available in your area? Use red and blue candy-coated chocolate candies to make stars and stripes …

Why yes, Betty.  I think I will.  Now I just have to figure out what candies to use.  Any suggestions?
