Candy Dish Blog

The Official Candy Blog of the National Confectioners Association

When I meet new people and they find out what I do, they almost inevitably say or ask one of the following three things (and sometimes all three):

  1. Chocolate needs PR?
This is always asked in the most incredulous voice.
  2. What a sweet job!
Then I have to laugh like I’ve never heard it before.
  3. Are you hiring?
We are seldom hiring as people have a tendency to come to work  here and never leave.  I mean, really, why would you leave this?

Just recently, however, I learned about an awesome contest sponsored by Jelly Belly Candy Co.  The grand prize winner gets a job even better than working at the candy association.  If you win, you get to run Jelly Belly for a day in your role as the Big Bean.  Okay, so you probably won’t be brokering any deals, or visiting retailers, or buying new equipment for the plant … but you will win a trip for four to Fairfield, California (it’s near Napa) and get squired all around the factory like some big time VIP.  Oh – and there’s also the matter of pretty great $10,000 cash prize, too.

The Web site where you enter also offers you lots of other chances to win cool prizes including a Wii Kit with the Ballistic Beans game and instant win prizes like cuff links, bracelets, mugs and, of course, candy.  Every time you play a game or enter a new department you get extra chances to win.  The Web site is extremely fun; in the R&D department you can design a tasty Jelly Belly flavor and then a less tasty but difficult to tell apart flavor for Bean Boozled (I picked strawberry pie and ketchup – since I’m not eligible to win, feel free to steal my idea, but remember you will be judged on creativity so you should probably try to come up with something on your own first).

Good luck.  You have until July to enter but I suggest making it happen sooner rather than later so you don’t forget about this great chance to be the Big Bean for a day.

  1. My combination is lemon and durian. Lemon is tasty and so is durian, but I understand there are some people who do not like lemon for some reason. Freaks.

    Carl,
I thought you were serious when you said that you had never heard that…. man…

  3. No, nobody ever has said I had a sweet job other than you, Leroy. That was very witty and original.
