Jumping for Jelly Beans

At this year’s Easter Egg Roll on the White House lawn, there was a fair amount of candy sampling and exercising taking place.

Sponsored by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Jelly Bean Jump was one of the most popular activities at the 135th annual event. Children earned jelly beans by jumping, wiggling and dancing – the amount of calories they expended correlated to the number of jelly beans they earned. AAAS wanted to highlight the importance of the calories in / calories out equation for overall health and well being. The Jelly Bean Jump supported the Easter Egg Roll’s health and wellness theme, “Be Healthy, Be Active, Be You!” and encouraged children to lead healthy, active lives as part of the First Lady’s “Let’s Move!” initiative.

The thought of free jelly beans definitely gets me jumping! How about you? What candy motivates you to stay active?
