Candy CornYou may think from this week’s theme that we have a candy corn fixation. You are right. As Susan pointed out yesterday, it’s one of the few candies that is available for only a short time, and that preserves its magic and keeps the spark and love alive. However, we are not the only fans of the treat. Many thanks to Yum Sugar for posting a recipe that’s sure to delight Halloween partygoers everywhere. Well, adult partygoers, anyway. Candy corn cordials? Yes, sign me up!

Ingredients
For the infused vodka:
1/2 cup candy corn
1 1/2 cups vodka
For the cordials:
2 ounces orange liqueur
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1 large egg white
Candy corn, for garnish

I don’t want to steal the thunder away from the original author, so you will have to go read the rest of the recipe on the original site. But anytime you have candy corn infused vodka, you can’t go wrong. This is the stuff of epic-sized parties.

Custom Jelly Belly Jelly BeansDid you know you could customize packages of Jelly Belly Jelly Beans? Go to MyJellyBelly.com and make your custom packages for all sorts of occasions. They have lots of clip art and stock designs to choose from and you can also upload your own photos and designs. You can upload your fun photos for a nice treat or your more serious, theme-appropriate photos, like the one above.

Whichever design you use, these are sure to be a hit at your next party – something for your guests to take home and savor and remember the magic of the evening. Of course, you could also take these and use them to make your next batch of jelly bean fudge, but it seems there are better ways to go about that.

What upcoming events do you have that you would consider ordering these for?

M&MsAs our resident sports expert Tori pointed out, football season has begun, which means that pretty soon you will be having friends over for Sunday afternoon parties – chips, dip, cocktail weenies and barbecue sauce (another of Mother Weaver’s specialties) and some great desserts. Need a new snack to add to the table?

Barbara here in our DC Candy Hideaway has an excellent idea. Take a bag of M&Ms and mix it about half-and-half with salted cocktail peanuts. Mix and serve. If you have not tried this, it’s wonderful, simple, fast and does not require cleanup, except for the empty M&Ms bags.

Try making candy cakes like Susan S does or maybe even a football cake, or at least a football-shaped cake. We wouldn’t any footballs harmed in this exercise.

What sweet snacks are you preparing for the big game?

Dylan's solid milk chocolate football

Dylan's solid milk chocolate football

Labor Day weekend… quite possibly the best weekend of the year. It’s warm, people are grilling out and laughing about all the summer fun they had and most importantly, football season begins!  I can’t even try to hide my excitement for Hokie football to start.  I’ve already cast my vote for my new gameday t-shirt, I’ve packed my bags for this weekend’s kickoff game in Atlanta, and I’ve already set up doggy boarding for Bella for the entire season.  Hey, I used to be a Girl Scout – I’m prepared!

Anyway, not only has Anheuser-Busch made the all-controversial team colored cans this season, but so have candy and chocolate companies!  MARS offers My Team M&M’s Blends for pro teams, Pez makes college football helmet dispensers, Candy Warehouse lends up football hard candy lollipops, and Dylan’s Candy Bar has molded a football out of solid milk chocolate.   How could football and confectionery NOT go together!?

MMs_RedskinsAfter everyone has polished off the meatballs, wings and seven layer dip, you can just hand out some of these treats to your fellow tailgaters. Even if your team loses and you’re feeling down in the dumps, your friends will still love you for bringing them these sweet mood boosters!
Or, you can just grab yourself another cocktail.

Ladies and Gentleman – I’m excited to share with you that June is National Candy Month!  Get out your party clothes, it’s time to celebrate.

CandyMonthActually, the hows and whys of the origins of Candy Month are lost to time.  It’s very easy to to get a national calendar of special observances to declare a day or week or month in honor of something or someone.  Just about anyone can do it (and has!).  Here’s some information about special observances and how they come to pass.  We do know that Candy Month was not originally celebrated in June.  We also why it was moved to June.

In 1998, NCA was planning the very first ALL CANDY EXPO.  It was to take place in June.  The support from the industry was overwhelming.  We’d been waiting for a trade show of our own for a long time.  Everyone wanted a central place to buy and sell candy and the event was finally around the corner.  One of the trade magazines in the industry (called, at that time, Confectioner) found out about National Candy Month and decided that with such a big celebration of candy taking place in June that Candy Month also should be in June.  So, they asked Chase’s Calendar of Events to change it.

Yeah, it’s not the most spectacular story … but it still gives us a 30 days to celebrate this wonderful treat.

It’s time to plan your celebration. You could throw a party with gummi shot glasses (or a party for the kids), or bake a candy cake or make crafts using candy.  The possibilities are endless.

How will you celebrate National Candy Month?

ferreroOkay, I admit it.  For the last 30 minutes I have been researching weddings online.  Nope, I’m not engaged.  (uhh, okay crazy girl…)  BUT – one of my best friends is engaged and I was doing a little surfing for her big day since I’m in her bridal party.  I was looking for unique place card ideas and came across this post on A $10,000 Wedding

What a great idea!  Who doesn’t love Ferrero Rocher® chocolates?  And they’re affordable.  The gold foil wrapping keeps it classy and the chocolate is soft and creamy enough to stick a toothpick in it.  This could definitely double as a wedding favor, saving you a little bit of cash.

Two thumbs up, Ferrero Rocher®.

Many thanks to loyal reader Don W., who has recently been promoted from fiance to husband in Susan’s org chart of life, for sending me an article on how to make gummy shot glasses. What? You didn’t know Susan and Don tied the knot and had a candy buffet and cocoa marinated flank steak and cupcakes with Guylian praline chocolates on top? Where have you been?

These glasses would be a lot of fun at a party and would certainly generate a lot of conversation. Even better, this set of plans can be used to make any sort of gummy object you can find or build a mold for.

What gummy creation are you going to make to keep cool in the June heat?
